Ford Home Integration System
As one of America's oldest automakers, Ford Motor Company has spent decades finding ways to continually innovate. With the advent of smart home technology and the popularity of electric vehicles, the idea of integrating your daily life with technology is increasingly common. When most people think about their garage, they usually think of where they will park their new vehicle.Â
With Ford's new Home Integration System, drivers can go a step further and bring the idea of a smart home to their garage. This system serves as an EV charger and Ford's Intelligent Backup Power to run your home when electricity isn't available.
What Is Ford Home Integration System?
Owners of the F-150 Lightning can take advantage of the available Ford Home Integration System. As part of this system, the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro can charge your truck when installed in your home. Even better? If the electricity goes out, this intelligent backup power system automatically switches to serving as a home generator, letting you continue to power your home during a power outage.
Depending on your selected packages, your Lightning can power your home for at least three days (with the standard range battery). The optional extended-range battery allows you to power your home for up to 10 days through careful energy consumption management.
The system functions using three components:
- An inverter, a device that helps switch the type of power used from the current in utility lines to the backup battery
- A transfer switch, a device that switches power between two electrical sources
- A small battery
A cellular connection is also integrated to allow for app-based management and alerts during an outage situation.
How Do You Use Ford Home Integration System?
Using the Ford Home Integration System is simple! A qualified professional will get it installed in your home. Once it's set up, it's ready to use as an EV charger or as a backup power source for your home.
Setup & Installation Costs
The system needs to be installed by Sunrun, Ford's preferred expert installer, or another qualified licensed electrician. During installation, the installer will hard wire the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro to your home's electrical box via the Home Integration System.
The system needs to be installed by Sunrun, Ford's preferred expert installer, or another qualified licensed electrician. During installation, the installer will hard wire the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro to your home's electrical box via the Home Integration System.
There are only a few requirements for setup:
- An installation location, inside or outside
- 100A circuit recommended
- Permits and local utility coordination with energy services may be needed
EV ChargingÂ
Once the system is connected, it can be used as your EV charging station. You can use the connector for your F-150 Lightning to recharge the battery and have it ready for your next drive. The FordPass app, installed on your smartphone, will allow you to manage the connection and monitor the battery's charging status. The Ford Charge Station Pro completes a full charge for the F-150 Lightning from 15% to 100% in about 8 hours.
Backup Power SourceÂ
No additional steps are required to use the bi-directional charging functionality, which will power your home during an outage. It will be connected to your home via the transfer switch during installation. This device allows your home to safely disconnect from the power grid during an outage and switch to the backup power source. The FordPass app will alert you when the power goes down and when it returns, and you can also manage your power usage during an outage. When the outage ends, the transfer switch will toggle back to running from the grid and return your F-150 Lightning to a charging state.
Which Fords Have Home Integration System?

Like other smart home technology, we expect to see this feature rolled out further in the future as Ford works to enhance their line-up of products continuously.
